![]() The Achates Power engine though would take a lot less work to retrofit into existing trucks, and therefore negates the environmental and financial expense of building new trucks. ![]() Finally, the amount of diesel trucks on the road is staggering, and so the cost to replace them all in a sensible timeframe is just totally uneconomical. Have you ever seen a bust truck stop? Imagine the chaos as trucks queue for hours to 'refuel', and we doubt huge long-distance battery packs would recharge all too fast either. This brings us neatly onto the second major issue, and that's the infrastructure required to support a nation of EV truck drivers. Thanks to large fuel tanks, they can do this without having to stop and waste time on a regular basis, but that would currently be impossible, with range reduced to just hundreds of miles when relying on electric power. The obvious first issue is range trucks are expected to travel hundreds of miles day in and day out. So, how does this revolutionize the truck industry - wouldn't it just be greener to use electric trucks, such as the Tesla semi? While the aforementioned Tesla, and other similar EV trucks, do make a lot of promises, and would certainly help squash emissions from within the industry, many truckers believe they just are not the answer, and here's why. ![]()
