![]() ![]() Don't worry, I did my homework before trying what I wrote off as a stupid stunt the first time I thought about it July was a while ago, but I believe I was up at about ~1500 agl, ~2500 msl and well away from the public gathering. Right, I worded that poorly I meant 'at their altitude' as opposed to closer to cruising altitude as you described. You wouldn't circle them right at the altitude they're going off at, that would be too low, but rather about ~1000 feet above, giving a generous 1.5 mile radius around the show. I'd apply the universal minimum safe altitude rule: never fly low enough for someone to read your tail number.Īnother thought: A fireworks display sounds like a great place to get zapped by some idiot with a laser pointer. Not sure if exploding fireworks qualify as an obstacle. That means you need to be 1000 ft above the highest obstacle within 2000 ft. Public fireworks displays involve an "open air assembly of persons" and qualify as a congested area. If they're anywhere as low as I think they are, this can get you in big hot water (FAR 91.119). ![]()
